Dr Lola Montgomery Marley | Curator for Research

Dr Lola Montgomery Marley joins the Australian Burlesque Museum core team as our Curator for Research. In this role she will be guiding longitudinal research projects and providing academic direction for large-scale data collection. Dr Montgomery Marley is arguably better known in burlesque as Lola The Vamp. A bona fide icon who’s burlesque lineage has seen her deeply involved in the development of the Australian burlesque world since 2002.

The first PhD to perform burlesque in theatre history, her doctoral submission A Burlesque consisted of a creative film documentary component and written thesis on the individual enactment of burlesque.

Lola was the first Australian to perform at Burlesque Hall of Fame and one of the first revival performers to showcase at Edinburgh Fringe. Lola was also the only Australian headliner of the premier and groundbreaking US event Tease-o-rama.

Lola is also a lecturer at SAE Creative Media Institute and is very proud to be taking on the role of Research Curator for the Australian Burlesque Museum.
